Beavers Baseball…Late bloomers, again!

Published by beaversrock at 1:20 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Two years ago when Oregon State University won its first NCAA Division 1 College World Series National Championship, the team built on the previous year’s appearance at the CWS, and romped through their regular season schedule, consistently the best in the PAC-10. They leveled Rice, and then North Carolina to win the big one. Last year, they came in as underdogs and went to beat Tar Heels again for their 2nd Championship in 2 years.

Expectations were high (and expectedly so) this year, as the Beavs have fashioned themselves a national powerhouse program, but they stumbled early and often falling from a number 8 ranking nationally, completely out of those rankings.
Yesterday, OSU beat Arizona, for their second series win against Arizona schools this season.

Braden Wells, #9, left fielder for the Oregon State University Beavers, takes a pitch to his jaw in the bottom of the third inning during a 3-2 win against the Arizona Wildcats in Goss Stadium Sunday in Corvallis.
Branden Wells didn’t enjoy the win nearly as much as his teammates, but then, it’s hard to be happy with a busted up grill. (sweet picture though)

My point is, however, that Beaver baseball has been peaking late the last couple seasons, and though it causes me grief to see them lose early, I’m  just as happy to see them win it all late. It would be a pretty large order to say that the Beavs will take it all again this year, but as a die-hard believer, I have to hope. If nothing else, so that I can say I called it when it happens again.

Go Beavs.
